TJP staff have designed a number of specialty pools including
laboratory facilities, film studio pools, and competition pools.
TJP staff was contracted by the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for the design and
construction of a 6.2 million gallon pool for use as a laboratory
for simulating zero-gravity training and test conditions. The
laboratory tank was designed large enough to facilitate a number of
space vehicle equipment configurations. As a result, the
pool’s hydraulic design was of significant concern and study. The
“zero-gravity” condition required a “zero-current” environment to
exist and as a result, all distribution piping was limited to
extremely low velocities to prevent unrealistic effects from
impacting the simulation environment.
TJP staff designed the water treatment systems
for the Fox Studios Baja pool complex which was originally built to
film the movie “Titanic.” Since its initial construction
several other movies have been filmed at the pool studio complex.
The water treatment system is designed to maintain clean, clear
water and includes incoming seawater treatment, pool recirculation,
and piping flexibility to allow for isolating different areas of the
facility. The entire complex holds over 2 million gallons and pools
include a series of outdoor filming pools with infinity edges to
give the appearance of continuity with the adjacent Pacific Ocean,
and an indoor pool studio.
