Water features for terrestrial mammals often need to meet requirements ranging from water clarity and debris capture to providing healthful water for the animals and guests. TJP has provided water features for numerous terrestrial mammals and in doing so understands the importance of closely coordinating with zoo architects, exhibit designers, and the owner's team. The water systems for these facilities often go beyond back area treatment and include stream flows and waterfall features that need to meet the asthetic objectives. Compared to aquarium and marine mammal tanks, these systems often have a high demand for capture and practical removal of solid materials such as hay and leaves. The water features may also have special requirements for removal of particular micro organisms such as cryptosporidium, salmonella bacteria, or giardia cysts.
