Fish, Sharks & Rays
TJP has designed treatment systems for a diverse range of freshwater fish, saltwater fish, sharks, and rays—ranging from small delicate seahorses and sea dragons to the largest marine sharks and the largest aquarium tanks in the World. While water clarity is very important in these exhibits, particularly for exhibits with very large tanks and long viewing distances, the main purpose of the life support system (LSS) is providing for an exceptional environment for animals living in the water. In addition to particulate removal, these systems require disinfection, removal and addition of dissolved gasses, nitrification, denitrification, temperature control, and other unit processes. Like all of our designs, TJP provides engineering for construction using non-proprietary equipment and selection from a wide range of filtration options including sand or glass media filters, absorption filters, pre-coat filtration, mechanical screen and drum filtration, centrifugal filtration, foam flotation, membrane filtration, and others. In all cases, TJP seeks design solutions with the lowest capital cost to meet performance objectives, long service life, and low energy and water use.
